Happy Weekend …

Posted by: Devyl Gyrl

I was not around at all this weekend. Thank you to everyone who texted/DM’d me to make sure all was well. I just chose not to hook the computer up for once while I was at C’s house. It was a lovely weekend, the kids spent most of it outside playing both Saturday and Sunday. C and I stayed inside with Baby S, protecting her from the slight chill that was outside and any influences that might cause normal changes in body temperature that could read as abnormal since she is so delicate right now.

Baby S is *finally* started on rice cereal. She has been nursing with a lot more frequency lately, and for longer periods of time. She gets fussy a lot more too, so we came to realize that Momma’s milk is just not providing all the fulfillment that she needs anymore. Baby S was not, however, at all sure about eating rice cereal. It does not smell like the good things she saw Auntie Angel and Mommy eating and drinking, and it does not taste the same as her Momma’s milk … so while she allowed us to feed her a little of it, she did not seem at all excited about it. However, after a few days of rice cereal, she should be able to start on baby foods … which WILL taste and smell more like the food she sees everyone else eating!

We had a great weekend. I hope all of you did, as well!

xoxo

I have a friend who is Korean. She was weaned on this rice and miso mixture - she called it korean baby food. Her mother told me that it was really good for the immune system and helped build the blood. I wonder if that’s something that Baby S could try…..

Come to think of it.. I wonder what it is….

I wonder if mixing the rice cereal with breast milk might help? I continue to keep Baby S and her family in my thoughts and prayers and send to them lots of love!!

Yes, @Kat - mixing with the breastmilk does help, but still is not the same flavor and consistency of breast milk, so she’s still a little unsure. It was so cute watching her TRY to eat for the first time though! I loved that I got to be there for that!

Claudia - I wonder what miso is? And, the reason they start the babies on rice cereal is because their tummies need an adjustment period :D

When my kids were babies, and I started them on rice, they didn’t like it either. I would mix it with Baby juice or fruit and they would eat it without much fuss. I’m glad to hear Baby S is eating better. This weekend was so beautiful, I don’t blame you for enjoying the days off.

Glad to hear the positive update, always good news. Leaving the computer off for a weekend is a great idea, I may do it myself soon, sort of a techno-fast.

Tara - While this is okay for most babies, it is a risk for ALL babies. Therefore, C & B are remaining strictly by the book with Baby S because she has enough difficulties as it is. We’d hate for the wrong dietary risk to be the cause of yet another complication! I know my own child was eating solid foods by this age, simply because she was already walking (around furniture) and had been crawling for over a month (she started crawling at almost 4 months) and could sit up of her own accord (no help from mommy or daddy) and climb (YIKES! Scared the crap out of us!). She was so active, and was wanting to eat so often, we just decided to feed her, period. It was not until later that I found out this was bad for her. She did get bland foods, but they were tablefoods nonetheless. I’m a bad mom!
