The “R” Word (#65/365)
Posted by: Devyl GyrlI know the blog has been dead a while now. I ran into trouble blogging for a while there - suddenly the blog host’s computers went down one day, and half my posts for the year disappeared. Then, the blog was there and I was able to rebuild a few posts … then, the blog locked me out and I was unable to post anything! Finally, I lost both of my computers to technical difficulties.
I still have no idea what happened to the blog and my original posts, but for whatever reason, I am able to blog tonight. Therefore, I shall blog! Once I get my computers back, I will start uploading the posts I had been saving daily to a text file. Hopefully, there will be no more major interruptions!
Many of you come here to follow the story of Baby S, who has been fighting cancer since she was two weeks old. Quite a few of you have kept my spirits uplifted over the last 9 months, allowing me to be stronger and happier for my BFF, Baby S, and the rest of the family. Some of you went as far as sending money for me to make the constant trips back and forth to the hospital (an hour away), or helping me buy something special for BFF for dinner just to get her to eat something when things were particularly bad and she was uninterested in doing anything for herself. ALL of you have been amazing champions for Baby S, and all of us here are extremely grateful for your love, prayers, warm wishes, and positive thoughts.
A few weeks ago, I shared the news that Baby S could potentially be in remission if her AFP scores continued to go down. The signs were all pointing to “yes,” but the chemotherapy, liver regeneration, and IV fluids were all causing her scores to bounce up and down erratically. We wanted to be POSITIVE before we released the news, because we did not want to have to turn around and break everyone’s hearts again if we were wrong. So, over the last few weeks, they have been running tests and reading the scores.
On February 26, a new word became the most prevelant word in our vocabulary: REMISSION!!! The “C” word has been placed on the back burner (though it will remain in our peripheral view, because she has to be in remission for five years before she is considered “Cancer Free.”). The “R” word is now our new catchphrase!
REMISSION!!!
REMISSION!!!
REMISSION!!!
How great is it to hear that word? How wonderful to say that word? How beautiful to read that word!?!
Just for a moment, please allow yourself to think nothing but pure, happy, joyful thoughts. You deserve it, all of you. Thank you so much, from all of us, for your love and support. I could not have done this without you … and therefore I would not have been as helpful and relevant to BFF & her family.
xoxo
