Weekend Warriors (73/365)

I remember (way back) when I was in the US Navy, we called reservists weekend warriors. Not because they ONLY came in on the weekends, but because they had to accomplish SO MUCH during the one weekend a month (and two weeks of temporary duty a year) they put on their uniforms. We were usually pretty impressed with their knowledge and understanding of the duties they had to accomplish.

By the way, I was technically a reservist on full-time active duty. I signed up for a 4-yr term like RegNav folk, but I signed onto the reservist side. We were called TARs (Training and Administration of Reserves), and basically we trained and managed the reservists assigned to our command. However, this post is intended to highlight Reservists who dedicate a weekend every month plus two weeks of temporary duty to their chosen branch of service. They may work more (or possibly less) than this, depending on their contract and their branch of service. But the 1 wkend/2 wks is a generally accepted term. Anyway …

How many reservists do you know? Have you remembered to thank THEM for their service to our wonderful country?

If not for Reservists (in every branch), the safety and security of our Nation would be less stable. Their ability to pick up and go where we need them gives us the capacity to expand our reach and provide service and protection all over the US and wherever we are needed in the world. Without their dedication and flexibility, we would be far less effective in every aspect of our military.

So when you thank Veterans or Active Duty Servicepeople … remember to thank your Reservists too. They may have chosen a different route, but they still offer the same dedication and service to our Nation and its people.
