POOL TIME! (#221/365)
Posted by: Devyl GyrlSunday morning, we all woke up and got ready for Church. My friend, June Cleaver, bought chai teas for her sister (my bff) and I. We visited a little before services started, listened to praise worship, and then listened to the service.
One thing we couldn’t help but discuss while listening to praise worship was the fact that one of the singers/guitarists in our Church’s praise worship band has a mohawk now. I, personally, loved it. I do not always love mohawks on people, but sometimes they just strike me as fitting … and his does. Not to mention, it reminds me of one of the things I love most about our Church - there are no prejudices. We (as a collective whole) are open to all personalities, styles of dress, and lifestyles. I’m sure nudists and swingers would push limits of what could be displayed at Church (*giggles* at the thought, though), but for the most part, we encourage people to show up as themselves. Jeans, shorts, dresses … it all works. Concert tees, Hawaiian prints, leather … we have seen it all (2 of the 3 on our pastor, even). In a week I was questioning certain things about myself … coming ‘home’ to this particular view was perfect, exactly what I needed to remember about the difference between me and certain other people.
After Church, BFF & I (and our kids, obviously) headed home to re-heat steaks and corn on the cob from the previous day (WOOT!), then toss on bathing suits and head to my apartment (only five minutes away!) to swim in the complex pool. We had about an hour and a half of pool time before the black clouds started rolling in, and another 10 minutes before the thunder warned us to get out of the pool. We all schlepped upstairs to my apartment (3rd floor) and had a snack (crackers, Claussen pickles, and cheese for the kids, Groom’s Cake ice cream for BFF & I). Afterwards, we put Lil K in my room for a nap, Lil C, Lil B, and Lil Lady in Lil Lady’s bedroom to play the Wii and watch movies, and then BFF & I cuddled up with Baby S (she swapped back and forth between us) to watch some of our shows on the TiVo. We had a great time, and were able to relax for a few hours before she went home to clean up and prepare dinner for B.
Days like this remind me that it is the simple pleasures in life that really make me happy. All the running around, doing this-and-that, keeping up with schedules complicates life and I am unable to enjoy the activities or myself.
Hope you all had a pleasant weekend!
xoxo
