Karin - I have also made extremely successful friendships in my adult life. I think I am extremely blessed to continue to find people willing to put up with me. ;)

I think it is interesting that in continuing close friendships that began over 20 years ago, I am very much like my Dad & Stepmom ... Only they have lived in the same town for 40 years. I have not lived in any one place for more than 3 years since I was 18 (and 5 years was the record prior to my having moved out on my own, but 2 was the average amount of time spent in any one town).

Regardless of time & physical proximity ... I am grateful for all my friends & thankful for every moment we share.

I have maintained relationships with two of my best friends from jr. high, but the rest of my friends have been made during my adult years. The group of friends I have now is good and solid. They provide me with a base to go to when I feel adrift and I will always love them for that.

<em>Karin's last blog post..<a href='http://www.poppingbubbles.net/?p=3994' rel="nofollow">Just Another Manic Monday</a></em>

I'm so glad it wasn't something more serious! Bravo to both of you for being able to put a positive spin on something that could have been really scary and nerve wracking!

LOL I'll pass those along. He tells us all the time that we're killing him. In the next breath, he tells me he's glad I was part of the "package." <3

Aw crap, Karin. :( I hope it isn't *that* big of a cut, and that Rob's job stays safe. <3

We're on pins and needles here too. The state legislature is in session trying to cut the budget, the biggest cuts will most likely come from education and Rob could be in danger of being let go if the cuts are big enough.

I hope your sister finds something soon!

My sister isn’t being dismissed for anything she has or hasn’t done. She’s simply being dismissed because of the economic downturn. She and several other teachers are being let go b/c the county doesn’t have the funds to pay them.

She’s looking for other opportunities, but there isn’t anything available in her county. I’m not sure if other counties have positions available, but even if they do, it will be a fight to the finish. :(

I have been dismayed time and time again reading article after article of what seem to be good teachers getting fired for things that they do on their own time, away from the school, that don't even seem to me to be wrong. It's as if many parents (and administrators) want teachers to be 1800's schoolmarms - ankle length skirts, heavy sweaters, and hair in a bun.

And then they complain that there are never enough teachers, and that their children don't learn. What do you expect? I grew up wanting to be a teacher, and I maintained that desire until only a few years ago. I eventually decided that I would love to teach, but I will never be a teacher. I would not be able to deal with the non-teaching part of the job.
